Ethereum developers have confirmed plans to split the upcoming Pectra upgrade into two phases to reduce complexity and minimize potential bugs. Initially, Pectra aimed to be Ethereum's largest hard fork, but the split will allow developers to focus on a narrower scope for the first phase, set for early 2025. The first package includes eight Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), such as EIP-7702 for improving wallet user experience. The second package, still under discussion, may include changes to the Ethereum Virtual Machine and enhancements for data availability.
