According to sources, the EU is expecting US President Trump to announce executive action this week to officially lower tariffs on European cars and exempt tariffs on some industrial products such as aircraft components. Sources also indicate that both sides are expected to issue a joint statement outlining the political commitments reached last month between Trump and European Commission President von der Leyen. Under the terms previously agreed upon, most EU exports face a 15% tariff from the US. Officials had previously stated that this rate would also apply to cars, rather than the current 25%, as well as any future industry measures for pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
