According to Protos, scammers are using AI tools to steal cryptocurrency through deepfakes and wallet emptiers. Decentralized finance (DeFi) developer Joey Santoro stated that a friend recently lost $2 million in a sophisticated deepfake scam. The scammer utilized audio deepfakes of stablecoin blockchain Plasma founder Paul Faecks to offer a consulting position to Santoro's friend, persuading the victim to open a file during the call and obtain their password and private key. Santoro warns users to isolate cryptocurrency from everyday devices as much as possible.
