In breaking news, last week, OpenAI's o3 model emerged victorious in an artificial intelligence (AI) chess tournament, defeating xAI's Grok 4 to claim the championship. The competition, known as the AI International Chess Exhibition, took place on Google's Kaggle platform, with eight AI models competing in a three-day elimination round to determine the top three winners.

The tournament required AI models to play chess without any specialized training, only allowed to gather some chess knowledge from the internet before the match. In the finals, OpenAI's o3 defeated Grok 4 with a score of 4-0, securing the championship. Notably, o3 won all three games with a 4-0 score and also swept its sibling o4 mini in the semi-finals.

Earlier this year, in another tournament hosted by chess master Levy Rozman, Grok and ChatGPT both lost to the AI system Stockfish, specifically designed for playing chess.
