According to Cointelegraph, US prosecutors have appealed the sentencing of the co-founders of the cryptocurrency mining service company HashFlare. Prosecutors argue that HashFlare founders Sergei Potapenko and Ivan Turõgin should be sentenced to 10 years in prison and have appealed the decision. HashFlare is a $577 million Ponzi scheme company. On August 12, Seattle Federal Judge Robert Lasnik sentenced the two to serve their terms, pay a $25,000 fine, and complete 360 hours of community service during supervised release, with their terms expected to be served in Estonia. The two were arrested in October 2022, detained in their home country of Estonia for 16 months, and extradited to the US in May 2024, where they admitted to conspiring to commit telecommunications fraud.
