According to Bloomberg, sources revealed that the Hong Kong government has appointed banks to prepare for a potential digital bond issuance. Previously, Shenzhen Futian Investment & Holding and Mountain High Holdings have completed digital bond pricing in Hong Kong. Bloomberg data shows that in addition to government issuances, Hong Kong has seen at least 6 corporate digital bond issuances, raising a total of approximately $1 billion.

HSBC and King & Wood Mallesons noted an increase in interest from mainland and other regional companies in issuing digital bonds. Digital bonds utilizing blockchain technology (DLT/public chain) in issuance, trading, and settlement processes are expected to shorten settlement times and reduce costs; Hong Kong's support programs introduced at the end of last year are also driving growth in such issuances.
