According to sources, Senate Republican Leader Thune announced that the Senate will vote on a bill to reopen the federal government on Wednesday. Thune expressed optimism that more Democrats' support could break the funding deadlock. Thune stated in a TV interview, 'Tonight when we vote, we have three (Democratic) votes.' He added that Republicans hope to gain more votes in the next round of voting. 'Ultimately, we will have enough votes in the Senate to pass this bill and keep the government running.' Thune continued to blame the ongoing government shutdown on the Democratic leadership, accusing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of pandering to progressive members. 'This is completely unnecessary,' Thune said, 'They are doing this just to appease the left-wing base and Schumer's fears.'
