In a recent interview, Sidney (Sid) Powell, co-founder and CEO of Maple Finance, stated that in a few years, institutions will no longer distinguish between decentralized finance (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi), and ultimately all capital market activities will be conducted on the blockchain. Blockchain will play a similar role in the financial services sector, with on-chain finance becoming the next technological layer that global markets rely on, much like how the internet changed people's shopping habits. Cryptocurrencies will become the infrastructure of capital markets, with most transactions settling on public ledgers rather than traditional systems. More debt capital markets will adopt cryptocurrency-native structures, including Bitcoin-backed collateralized loans and other assets tied to cryptocurrency loans, as well as cryptocurrency credit card issuers whose receivables can be securitized and sold in capital markets.
