According to reports, yesterday morning two victims were robbed at knifepoint inside a currency exchange store in Central, Hong Kong after exchanging around 10 million Hong Kong dollars. However, due to police deployment, the suspects were caught and the victims did not suffer any financial losses. In the past three months, three high-value cash robberies have occurred in the bustling Central area of Hong Kong, all involving customers of exchange stores. Similar incidents involving virtual currency exchange stores occurred on December 18, 2025, and January 30, 2026.
Hong Kong police have noted the recent series of robberies related to foreign currency exchange stores and are conducting intelligence-led operations, utilizing surveillance cameras added under the 'Sharp Eye Plan' to gather crucial evidence. The police will investigate further to determine if there are other accomplices or criminal groups involved, and if there are any connections to previous robbery cases in Central. Additionally, the focus will be on how the robbers obtained information about the victims' large exchanges and whether they conducted reconnaissance beforehand. Currently, there is no evidence linking the victims to the arrested individuals. (Caixin)
