The New York Times announced on Thursday that its research and development team built an experimental prototype based on blockchain technology to help the media giant rule out misinformation found online. 

The prototype is part of the NYT’s project, The New Provenance Project, which endeavors to collect readers’ comments on online photos. The team hopes to utilize the prototype to add contextual information to photos and increase their credibility.
