Goldman named Matthew McDermott its new global head of digital assets last month, as reported by CNBC on Thursday.

McDermott, a former managing director who ran Goldman's internal funding operations, confirmed that Goldman Sachs is exploring possibilities to launch its own digital assets while considering to collaborate with JPM and Facebook on digital assets initiatives.

“We are exploring the commercial viability of creating our own fiat digital token, but it’s early days”, McDermott noted. He is also expanding Goldman’s digital asset team, especially in Asia and Europe.

McDermott expects the automation of processing IPO and debt issuances in the future, as well as a blockchain-propelled financial market.
