Michael Hsu, the new Acting Comptroller for the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC), said at a virtual press conference today that the department is reviewing all digital asset guidelines issued last year, including explanatory guidance, conditional trust licenses, and related digital assets regulation.
He mentioned: "I've instructed the team, everything’s on the table, let’s think about everything while being cognizant of factors [like] constraints around decisions that have already been made, things that have already been put out there, what the state of play is. And so you know, it’s basically encouraging my team to think broadly about everything, while being pragmatic."
The review includes conditional federal trust licenses issued to some crypto companies, as well as other companies' applications for such regulations.
Hsu expected the ultimate goal is to determine the "overall strategy" for digital assets, and hope other regulatory agencies that have jurisdiction over digital assets can jointly determine the most favorable regulatory framework, including the supervision of trading platforms.
