According to US Department of Justice sources, early Bitcoin evangelist, 'Bitcoin Jesus' Roger Ver has reached a settlement with US authorities, admitting that he intentionally failed to report his Bitcoin holdings when renouncing his US citizenship in 2014. Ver has signed a deferred prosecution agreement and paid nearly $50 million in taxes, fines, and interest to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Prosecutors stated that his concealment caused approximately $16.9 million in losses. The US government has now dropped criminal charges against Ver. US Acting Attorney Bill Essayli stated that Ver is taking responsibility for his actions and has agreed to pay a substantial fine. Ver became a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2014, and was extradited to the US last year after being arrested in Spain. The case was investigated by the IRS Cyber Crimes Unit.
